The Complete Guide to Gold Grading for Informed Purchases

Buying gold jewelry can seem complex, but understanding some basic gold grading concepts can make your decision easier. This article will help you understand how gold is graded and what to check before purchasing.

The Purity of Gold and Alloys
Gold, in its pure form, is a very malleable metal. To increase its hardness and durability, it is alloyed with other metals. This practice is essential for creating jewelry that can withstand daily wear and the setting of precious stones.

The "Title" of Gold

In Italy, gold trading is mainly based on two finenesses: 750/1000 (18 karats) and 375/1000 (9 karats). These numbers indicate the amount of pure gold present in the alloy. For example, an 18 karat piece of jewelry contains 750 parts gold out of 1000 parts of the total alloy.

The addition of different metals allows for various colors of gold to be obtained:
White Gold: obtained with metals such as silver.
Rose Gold: obtained with the addition of copper.
Each company has its own formulas for creating different shades of yellow, while still maintaining the ratio of 750 parts gold.

Identification of the Title and the Manufacturer
To ensure the quality of the jewel, it is essential to check the presence of the title and manufacturer's mark:

Fineness Mark: indicates the purity of the gold, expressed as 750 for 18-karat gold and 375 for 9-karat gold.

Manufacturer's Mark: identifies the company that produced the jewelry, through a hallmark that includes an acronym and a number assigned by the regional metric office. For example, Unoaerre is identified by the 1AR hallmark.

Transparency of Information
On our gold items, we always indicate the fineness and weight. Weight is essential information for evaluating and comparing jewelry. If the weight is not listed, you can request it through the information request forms, by phone, or by WhatsApp, and we will immediately update the product page.

Our Philosophy
Transparency is at the heart of our commitment. We believe that informed customers can make better choices and be more satisfied with their purchases. If you have any questions, we invite you to participate in our blog by writing to us.
